Approximately 60 children and their parents lined up at the gate to Kennedy Park shortly before the 4 p.m. start of the CWE Friends & Families annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 23. The Easter Bunny was there too, and greeted those who weren’t too shy to say hello.
A group of industrious volunteers spent a couple of weekends prepping for the event by raking up debris, trimming trees and shrubs, and mulching Kennedy Park, see earlier post here.
CWE Friends & Families chief organizer Dan Boccabella, above, once again took responsibility for planning the event. He and his son Dominic (not photographed) filled 1589 plastic eggs with candies and distributed them throughout the park.
At exactly 4 p.m., children 6 and under were instructed to head west, and those 7 and above were told to head east toward the playground area.
And they were off…
A lucky find for the child, above left, who discovered one of 4 Golden Eggs. Inside was a $25 gift certificate for a purchase at any CWE business. In addition, each child received a CWE t-shirt, below.
The event was a big hit with spectators and participants alike. One of the sweetest moments was when a father and son arrived after all of the eggs had been collected. One of the mothers realized what was going on, and quickly hid an egg for the newcomer. You would have thought the child had found buried treasure he was so excited to find that egg. His father was equally thrilled.
Thanks to CWE Families & Friends Dan Boccabella, the Easter Bunny, graciously played by a W. U Occupational Therapy student who lives in the CWE (and babysits!—contact dboccabella@gmail.com for contact info). Thanks also to the generous event sponsors, the Central West End Association and CWE North Community Improvement District.
I love living in a community that cares….
