Sadly, the owners of the CWE’s West End Grill & Pub, 354 N. Boyle, have announced that they are ceasing day-to-day operations.
The reasons cited by William Roth, one of the restaurant’s founders, have become a familiar refrain of late. In an excellent article in The Riverfront Times, Cheryl Baehr reported the “ongoing pandemic-related challenges as the reason for the closure, noting that he (Roth) had done his best to hang on but could no longer weather the persistent stressors of staffing shortages, supply chain issues, increased product prices and general uncertainty.”
I followed up with CWEnder Carol Kyser who, along with her husband Eric, were among a group of 15 neighbors who stepped up to invest in the restaurant to keep it going in 2019. From Carol’s perspective: “We had about 3 good years, but the conditions—Covid and the weather—stood in the way.”
For now West End Grill & Pub will open the bar and offer light fare when there are performances at The Gaslight Theater, for private parties, and for special events such as their traditional Super Bowl Party this Sunday. Details follow:
Over the years I’ve written several posts about WEGAP, including one about its history, and another that links to Duff’s, another neighborhood restaurant with a storied past.
