In spite of the weather, spirits were high among the large numbers of people who participated in Saturday’s Halloween events in the Central West End. Morning dawned cold and grey and remained that way throughout the day. Nevertheless, there were still hundreds who participated in both the kids’ and canine costume parades at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. When night fell a huge crowd gathered around the stage at Maryland and Euclid Avenues as the “legendary” adult costume contest took place. Most stayed late into the night dancing in the streets to DJ Agile One’s beats.
Many thanks to CWE North Community Improvement District, producers Frances Thompson and Dennis Gorg, and sponsors of the day’s activities, including Budweiser, Shriners Hospital for Children, Busey Bank, Washington University Redevelopment Corporation, Lofts@Euclid, Johnny Brock’s, and St. Louis Earth Day.
Families met at 11 a.m. at The McPherson Lot between Euclid and Taylor Avenues.
Several of the costumes were homemade including the elaborate replica of the Titanic, above.
The crew from the Shriners’ Hospital for Children. When I thanked them for their generosity in participating, the man far right said, “Anything for the children.”
More photos very soon…oh, and by the way, Happy Halloween!
