Last week we attended a family wedding in Kennebunkport, Maine, held in a natural wooded setting on the grounds of Hidden Pond, a rustic yet elegant resort (in that understated Yankee way). Years ago Jim and I rented a renovated fish house overlooking the water in nearby Cape Porpoise, so it was especially lovely to return to a place that holds fond memories while celebrating one of life’s happiest occasions.
I’ve chosen not to make this post as much about the couple, our nephew Parker Dwyer and his bride Jenn Engel, but more about the bride’s vision for her wedding day, which after a year’s planning, was perfectly magical.

As guests arrived for the 4 o’clock ceremony, they were invited to fill paper cones with fresh herbs for a Ceremony Herb Toss following the service.
Table assignments for the reception were written on an antiqued mirror, a portion of which is shown in the background upper left.
Extra rose petals signifying love.
The wedding party included the bride’s sister and brother, and the groom’s five siblings.

The bride’s personal touch extended to vignettes in the reception barn, including the one above, and on the table that held the wedding cake, top photo, which included family photos.
Even the flavored water perched on a tree-stump trivet was gorgeous.
P.S. – The simply elegant wedding cake was a carrot cake, and it was delicious.
It was wonderful to get away from the unending political news and enjoy a beautiful and life-affirming event. Here’s to more happy occasions for all of us.
What a beautiful wedding that was. So nice to see such thoughtfulness put into the event. Thanks for the view.
So pretty! Love all the details and the woodsy feeling. Thanks for posting about Vermont on the way. Loved seeing you here! ?
