Brothers Derek and Lucas Gamlin seem to have their collective pulse on the neighborhood's dining wants, as well as a knack for securing prime locations. They are soon to "break ground" on a third restaurant in the CWE, a former restaurant space in the The Residences at Forest Park Hotel (see 2014 post here) at the corner of West Pine Blvd. and Euclid Ave.
The 4,800 s.f. space, cater-corner from Whole Foods and across the street from what will be Danny Meyer's Shake Shack, was at one time a 24-hour deli called Harold's which closed years ago. The only hint about what the Gamlin Restaurant Group, which includes Gamlin Whiskey House and subZero, plans for space is that it will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer, according to Lucas Gamlin, "fresh, local flavors." Hearing that the new restaurant will serve breakfast will delight many who lament the recent closing of Kopperman's.
The Gamlins have the magic touch when it comes to restaurant concepts so no doubt this one will follow suit. I'll post more details as they become available like this piece of news that was announced today: "Construction has officially started on 1764 Public House, Gamlin Restaurant Group's newest venture, at the corner of Euclid Ave. and West Pine Blvd. in the Central West End."
I just remember the days of Poor Richard’s [Euclid & McPherson] it was the Cheers bar of the STL-CWE, (1962-70) everyone knew your name. It then went rogue…and later morphed into Llewellyn’s and so on.
The Majestic, Earl Sisk’s,all now gone and living on as another name.
I wish the Gamlin brothers all the best.
I now choose to eat at 476 N. Kingshighway…still CWE fondly remembered.
