There's so much buzz these days about the new restaurants that have opened (Gamlin Whiskey House), or are set to open (Cucina Pazzo and Evangeline's Bistro & Music Hall), that I don't want the shops that call the CWE home to get lost in the spotlight. The mix of retail and dining establishments in the neighborhood keeps the commercial district vital and a draw for residents and visitors alike. As the holiday season draws near, celebrate retail CWE and shop local. And following is some news about a few of the shops in the neighborhood.
Hillary Dutcher (shown below), proprietor of Ivy Hill , 304 N. Euclid, celebrated the shop's 5th Anniversary with an Open House on Friday October 25. The tiny boutique, sandwiched between Culpepper's and Sub-Zero, packs a big
wallop with its selection of basics (tees, tights, gloves) and designer clothing you won't find at the mall.

The photo above and the two that follow were taken at the Q Boutique at the World Chess Hall of Fame when I was putting together the post about "A Queen Within" published last week. I decided that these items, though related to the exhibition, would be better publicized separately.
According to store manager Brian Flowers, the stunning catalog, $75, that accompanies the museum's "A Queen Within" shown above has been a big seller.
"A Queen Within" t-shirts are $25 for adult sizes and $20 for youth sizes. The black and white "Queen Within" tote is $20.
Karolina Kling cards are $3 each, or $25 for a set of 12; creature magnets, far left & right, are $7 each, or $25 for a set of 4.

In what has become a holiday tradition, CWEnders Bea and Wade Crowder are popping up once again with their holiday sample sale. This season's location is the site of the recently-shuttered Mary Jane's at 387 N. Euclid. The shop opens Friday, details follow.
I realize it's somewhat presumptuous of me to even consider being upset with author Donna Tartt for writing The Goldfinch.
After all, I don't know her at all, but this delicious read is interfering with everything else I should
be doing. I snapped up one of the last two copies on the shelf last week at Left Bank Books and have been sneaking in a chapter whenever I can. By now there should be more copies available. The Goldfinch in
hardcover is $30 (less 10% best seller discount), e-book version is
$14.99. Shop local!

I second your comments about The Goldfinch! It’s a great read! I am planning on viewing The Goldfinch by Fabritius along with another painting on tour at The Frick Collection Girl With the Pearl Earring by Fabritius’ student, Vermeer while in NYC in December. Nicki, I think we need a CWE Book Club.
