Firemen from Engine House 28 (see post here) parked their hook & ladder truck alongside Starbucks on Saturday so that neighborhood children could climb all over it and wiggle every gizmo that moved. The visit was arranged through newsstand operator Tony Streckfuss above, who knows just about everyone who walks or drives through the intersection of Maryland and Euclid, including the firemen who stop to visit once in a while. This is the second occasion on which the hook & ladder truck has been parked on the street for the children to enjoy (see July 2011visit here).
Mary and Bob (not pictured) Dunn were there with their four children.
Jack Pearson, who was celebrating his 5th birthday on Saturday, was not about to part with his brand-new red bicycle, even long enough to climb aboard a red truck, no matter how big and important it was.
Circus Art at The Sheldon Galleries
On Friday evening among the many opening exhibits at the Sheldon Art Galleries was an exhibition of art inspired by Circus Flora. The pieces were created by area children from The Wilson School, Central Visual & Performing Arts High School, children who attended Circus Flora last summer, and students of Yvette Woods founder of the neighborhood's Studio W.
Talented Tessa DeHart, is shown above beside her wonderful pastel. She has been a student of Yvette Wood's for several years.
Alexandrya Wright, another student of Yvette's, was the first place winner in the Circus Art Contest. Congratulations Alexandrya! The Circus Art exhibit will be on view at The Sheldon Galleries until August 31.
