First, I would like to congratulate you upon receiving the 2012 Polk Award. However, my comments do concern the nomination and selection process of the Polk and Renaissance Awards. As a CWE resident, I was never notified of being able to nominate nor were any of my friends who are members of the CWEA received any notification. Your blog is of great service to this neighborhood but as I saw on the CWEA website, your husband is on the Board for the CWEA. Also, I did not know the connection of the Third Degree Glass Factory until I tried to contact the former CWEA president and saw on the website for a company where he is now the CEO that the President is Jim MacKelvey who also owns 3rd Degree. Coincidence? I think not. It seems that the CWEA is selfserving and honors only its own. There are many other businesses more central and vital to the CWE than 3rd Degree that are more deserving of this award. I do recall in earlier negative blog comments by John Bergland that the CWEA was open and wanted our participation. Well, if it only caters and honors its own and not the neighborhood it serves, then these statements are bogus. I am a former member of the CWEA a few years ago and my wife had received a letter to join again which we gave serious thought. However, as a result of the CWEA still being a very powerful and mysterious entity, I can only decline such an invitation and ask that other residents do the same.
Congratulations, Nicki!
