I can’t remember as much publicity about the opening of a restaurant—except perhaps Vicia in Cortex District—as restaurateur Danny Meyer has garnered since the former St. Louisan announced he was opening his 1st hometown Shake Shack at 32 N. Euclid Ave. (at West Pine Blvd.) in the CWE.
Therefore it was not unexpected that there was a long line when doors finally opened at 11 a.m. this morning. (At 10:30, Mayor Lyda Krewson and other dignitaries took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony along with Danny Meyer.) By noon, the line extended around the corner on West Pine Blvd., above and below.
What was not expected, however, was that supporters of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) also showed up, above and below.
The presence of the protestors didn’t seem to squelch the desire of those in line to head on inside.
For more on the menu at Shake Shack, check out a recent article in Feast Magazine. On the website you’ll find apps for both iPhone and Android so you can order ahead and avoid the lines. At the time of this posting, the St. Louis location had not been added to the website.
