As businesses have opened or re-opened in the fire-damaged building on the southeast corner of McPherson and Euclid, the CWE North CID (CWEScene.com) has marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting. The first shop to open in that block after almost 3 years of restoration was Rushmore Boutique , which opened at 4742 McPherson in late October, followed by T-Nail Spa at 4738 McPherson in November.
On March 26, it was Pass the Past Coffee’s turn to open its doors to customers. Proprietors Erica and Eugene Tsimerman, 3rd and 4th from left above, are shown here with the shop’s baristas, from left, Jaci, Sophie, and Missy (3rd from right), along with Rushmore Boutique’s Sydnie Rushing, and Rothschild St. Louis’ Scott Sturdevant, far right.
In the month since the grand opening, Pass the Past Coffee has become recognized for its fabulous coffee, beautiful decor, great vibe—and their unique cups (more on that follows).
The signature blend coffee, which Erica and Eugene developed with local roaster First Crack Coffee, is served in charming biodegradable cups, which were designed by Eugene. Customers have been drawn to the shop not only for the delicious coffee, but also in pursuit of the cups, which customers are asked about when they are out and about in the neighborhood. The design, which will change periodically, is also printed on the shop’s tee shirts, see Eugene’s above, which will be available for purchase in the near future.
Pastries are sourced locally from Poots Provisions which provides the salted chocolate chip cookies and chocolate banana bread, top shelf, and Dressels, just around the corner on Euclid, which provides popovers, muffins, and frosted cake slices.
There is also a refrigerator case that holds a selection of drinks, yogurt parfaits, $6, and a simple salad, $10.

The front of the shop is devoted to a curated selection of the Tsimermans’ stellar vintage collection of attire for men and women, as well as vintage home goods.
