Neither excessive heat nor occasional drizzle can rain on the annual 4th of July Children's Parade that has been a favorite neighborhood tradition since the early 1980's. See last year's post on those early days here. "Grand Marshalls" John Berglund, president of The Central West End Association, and Doug Teasdale, a resident of Lenox Place, assumed the reins for this year's parade, which had heretofore been organized by residents of Lenox and Pershing Places.
The weather may have caused some to stay home, but those that wouldn't let a little rain stand in the way decorated their bikes and strollers, and eagerly followed the parade route from McPherson south on Euclid then west to the Maryland Plaza Fountain.
In truth, not all the participants were that eager, above.

Frosty Treats for all at the Maryland Plaza Fountain. The children who participated loved the parade, as did the parents, grandparents, and few observers who marched along. Perhaps next year there could be a concerted effort to publicize the event so more CWEnders take part. And, a marching band would be terrific! It's simple events like these that make the neighborhood such a desirable place to live.
such fun- every year over the decades – all thanks to you, Nicki!
Love the pics, Nicki! My niece Margot and nephew Rory were very happy participants. Margot insisted on marching in her red and white polka-dot heels! I’ll have to come watch next year!
I would have loved to have gone, had I known about it! I agree about the need for more publicity and a marching band would be perfect!
