For the past twelve years the St. Louis Art Museum has sponsored an "Art With Us" program for youths in the St. Louis area. Yvette Woods' Studio W, located at 4814 Washington Avenue, is one of the sites selected by the Art Museum to offer the free program to students between the ages of 8 or 9 to 19. There are currently six spots open (twelve participants total) specifically for neighborhood students.
CWEnder Quinn Cage, above, has been taking art classes from Yvette Woods for the past couple of years, and is signed up for October's Art With Us program. The 10-session after-school program meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 from October 1 to October 31. The program includes a group visit to the Art Museum (transporation provided by the museum), where the students will choose an artist from the museum's collection to study. The students will complete four drawings during the month-long session. The course culminates in an exhibition for parents, siblings, and interested neighbors. And the Art Museum provides all art supplies.
No drawing experience is necessary to participate in Art With Us, but those interested are encouraged to bring samples of drawings to a preliminary meeting with Yvette Woods on Monday, September 24, or Wednesday, September 26 between 4 and 6 p.m. Call Yvette, who taught art at Meramec Community College for thirty years, at (314) 324-5847 or email her ([email protected]) to set up an appointment for this wonderful opportunity.

P.S. – I am part of a small group who take drawing lessons from Yvette on Mondays and Wednesdays. If she can teach me how to draw–and she has—she can teach anyone.
