Trinity Episcopal Church, one of the oldest Episcopal parishes in St. Louis was founded in 1855 at the corner of 5th and Washington. The parish relocated several times as the population moved west, and settled at the corner of Euclid and Washington in 1935, where it has been anchoring the north end of the CWE ever since. Now the neighborhood has caught up with it.
An early 1960s renovation which resulted in a 1400 s.f. parish hall was recently replaced and doubled in floor area with a 2750 s.f. addition. Construction on the South Parish Hall began in June, 2014 and was completed in February of this year.
Architect Jim Riddle said Riddle Design's aim was to meld the new project with the existing structure through the use of common materials such as stone, above, while also acknowledging the contrast between the modern glazed-wall addition and the original building.
Improvements include expanded kitchen facilities, which are used for parish events and a neighborhood food pantry, new accessible bathrooms, and a lift tying the entire facility together for accessibility.
The architect also introduced a soft landscaped "edge", shown above, where late last spring parishioners, from left, Kate Worland, Will Rainbolt, Jan Parker, Louis Gerteis, and Helen Hendry planted boxwoods and dogwoods.
The new addition takes its place among many recent developments contributing to the revitalization of the north end of the CWE.
