Last weekend we traveled to D.C. to attend a dear friend's wedding. The ceremony was held at St. John's Church across from Lafayette Square. The reception took place across the street at the elegant Hay Adams Hotel. The photo above shows the view from the balcony that wraps the top floor.
While exploring the city, where I had lived many years ago and that I no longer recognized, we stumbled upon City Center D.C. The 10-acre, 2.5 million s.f. development houses apartments and condo units, office buildings, 295,000 s.f. of retail space including a Daniel Boulud restaurant and, opening soon, Momofuko and Milk Bar, as well as many high-end retailers. Several people, including a cab driver, mentioned that the development was built in a section of town that until recently was considered less than desirable. No longer.
A huge digital video screen defines one entry to this magical place.
The video above perfectly expresses how lovely it was to get away, discover great restaurants (Founding Farmers, Zaytinya, & DBGB), explore museums, and most importantly, celebrate a happy occasion with old friends.
