The Vala Collection popped up in a birchwood and black plexiglass structure on Maryland Plaza early this morning. Ten friends assisted the kiosk's designer, Megan Berry (shown with plant), assemble the pop-up shop which opened this morning, Thursday, and will remain in place through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Berry graduated this past May from Washington University with Masters in Architecture and Business. With the Vala Collection, she is combining her knowledge of business and architecture to test whether a physical presence will help artisans get the notice they deserve for their creations.
Four artisans, Berry's "brand partners," are featured in this weekend's pop-up. They include: FOUNT, Rooey Knots, NUUFORM, and Parekh Bugbee. This is a sample-only sale meaning that customers can purchase an item that's on display, and the brand will ship the merchandise directly to them.
