The last couple of weeks have been filled with visits from my San Francisco relatives – half the family lives in the Bay Area. Here's what they loved about St. Louis:
All the rain – "everything is so green" – the luxury of long showers, and seeing people dining at outside cafe tables (it's too cold in S.F. to do so). For a two-year-old great-nephew, exotic animals at the zoo were not what excited him. Instead, it was the goats in the Children's Zoo, and the huge chess pieces on the patio at the World Chess Hall of Fame.
The other day, when Sam said he wanted to play with the horses, my niece Emily Stoddard got down the toy barn. "No, the horses!" he said. That's when she realized he meant the chess pieces at the World Chess Hall of Fame, see video above. Emily continued: "I mean, do you think I could order those online? I could give everything else away!"
The next time you are entertaining pint-sized guests, you might stop by the patio and play chess too.
…another bonus was being able to have a delicious lunch at Kingside or a treat at Froyo before or after “playing chess”. Such a wonderful neighborhood!
Awesome! Now that the stables have been renovated and the mounted police are back in Forest Park we love to walk over there and say hello. Usually, the officer on duty will give the kids a peppermint to feed the horses. Its SO much fun!
