For the past few months there's been much speculation about what fashion maven Susan Barrett, former director of World Chess Hall of Fame, has up her designer sleeve for the gallery space at 4733 McPherson (formerly Halbert Rug Company).
The big reveal occurs this Friday, April 10, when projects+gallery opens to the public. The gallery, created by Barrett together with partner and art collector Dorte Probstein, will explore the intersection of fashion and art. The opening exhibition, "On My Way-Hideki Seo," is a retrospective of work by Parisian-based artist Hideki Seo, a longtime assistant to couturier Azzedine Alaia.
CWEnder and St. Louis Magazine Style Editor Helene Sayad penned an excellent article about projects+gallery which you can read here.

One of Hideki Seo's designs that will be on view Friday is shown above. Look for more on projects+gallery website, including a clever video previewing Seo's exhibition in the new space.
Examples of Seo's work, above, were included in last year's "A Queen Within" at the World Chess Hall of Fame. A link to a post on that totally fascinating exhibition is here. Susan Barrett was a member of the curatorial team.
The partners are planning 4 exhibitions a year at projects+gallery, which will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 to 5. For more information, contact Dorte Probstein: dorte@projects+gallery.com.
"On My Way-Hideko Seo," until June 20, projects+gallery, opens Friday, April 10, 6 to 8 p.m., 4733 McPherson.
Selkirk’s assets (name and reputation as it was when the Selkirk family owned it) were purchased by a Columbus, Ohio auction firm. The first auction will be early this summer. I’ll get the post about it on the blog next week.
“The” Selkirks?
Yes, I understand Arlene wanted to downsize and decided to lease the space to Selkirk’s. I’ll be doing a post about this soon.
Sadly, Arlene Lillie next door is getting ready to pack it up and move to Ladue. Oh well….
