Okay, now we're really in trouble. Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream is opening its first St. Louis location at 389 N. Euclid next to Left Bank Books! You'll understand my tongue-in-cheek warning if you've ever tasted this brand, available locally at Straub's.
The following press release was sent out earlier today:
In spring 2015, Columbus, Ohio's artisanal ice cream pioneer, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, will open its first scoop shop in St. Louis's Central West End district.
Named "the best in America" by TIME, Jeni's will serve its grass-grazed ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets and other frozen treats, all made from scratch with carefully sourced ingredients such as sweet potatoes and pumpkins from Ohio and beer and peaches from Nashville.
"St. Louis is one of my favorite cities in the world," says founder and Midwest native Jeni Britton Bauer. "I love its combination of cosmopolitan flair and manufacturing grit, and it's also the hometown of my husband Charly. I've always loved St. Louis' distinct neighborhoods. The Central West End, where our scoop shop will be, is such a beautiful and vibrant place, and I love that the shop will be so close to Forest Park, one of America's most awe-inspiring public spaces. I can't wait for spring—it'll be perfect weather for strolling outside with a cone.
No matter where Jeni's sets up shop, the certified B Corporation always strives to become a part of the surrounding community, often partnering with like-minded artisans and offering exclusive flavors. Jeni's looks forward to collaborating with local businesses and purveyors to create an experience that is unique to St. Louis."
Red Brick's Scott Sturdevant said he had been talking to Jeni's since February, 2013. Echoing some of the same points as the press release above, Scott said: "Charly Bauer, Jeni's husband, grew up in St. Louis (and no, I didn't ask where he went to high school) and wanted to see their brand in this neighborhood." Scott continued, "I thought dessert was the only food-type that was under serviced in this area…"

Welcome Jeni's! What a great addition to the neighborhood!
This is the best news! I can’t wait to explore more flavors at a retail shop.
To Maggie – I loved the old Spicers and long ago, Meli Melo. North County is really lucky to have Nagles. It’s an old school five and dime. Basically one stop shopping for any occasion.
To Nicki – What a sweet surprise to find out about Jeni’s on your blog! Thank you.
This is exciting but we are desperately in need of a five and dime. With Spicer’s closing (granted, it was not nearly the glory of the “old” Spicer’s) central city and inland county don’t have anything. With the families in the area that is a really under serviced development in the CWE. Why, in a neighborhood so diverse and wealthy, should I have to drive ALL the way to target to get an incidentals (games, candy, ribbons, wrapping, costumes, cards, etcetcetc?
