The stars were aligned for a fabulous Halloween celebration last Saturday evening. Everything went well. The weather was picture-perfect, the large crowd was mellow, many of whom really got into creating imaginative costumes, both on the runway and in the streets.
MC's for the evening were radio personalities John Carney, above left, and Trish Bush, below right. Judges, from left above, were Matt Kruszynski (Anheuser-Busch), Kate Haher, barely visible, (CWE North-Community Improvement District), Alfie Beckman (2013 1st Place Winner), Ed Brock (Johnnie Brocks), Kristen Kempton (CWE Resident & Clothing Designer), and Michael Drummond (of Project Runway fame).
28th Ward Alderman Lyda Krewson welcomed the crowd to what she called the best Halloween event in the city. In her remarks she mentioned that the CWE had just been named one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods in America by the American Planning Association, which drew large applause.
The Invisible Man returned for the second year and made it to the top ten for 2014.
Bert and Ernie's performance would not have garnered a PG rating.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, above.
An X-rated Strawberry Shortcake, above.
Cher made a special appearance on the runway.
Super Mario Brothers got an enthusiastic round of applause.
King Arthur and his horse cantered through the crowd to get to the stage with hooves a'clapping.
A Ghostbusters crew also got a huge response from the audience.
These Zombies were named First Place winners for 2014.
CWEnders Peter Houston and Kristen Kempton, a judge for the evening.
A closer look at Project Runway's Michael Drummond just after the costume contest. He had a blast!
Next up: Faces in the crowd…and what a crowd it was!
I think they hit the right balance between raunch and good clean fun this year!
