As reported on this blog last Saturday, the Forest Park Gas House at the corner of Forest Park and Vandeventer is closing at the end of this month. At the time I wasn't aware what was proposed for the site until news arrived on the nextSTL website earlier today.
Alex Inhen's post shows a rendering of "The Standared" a 164-unit, 465-bed apartment complex that has been proposed for the location.
Portions of Inhen's post follows, and here is a link to the rest:
"More than 2,000 residential units are planned or now under construction in the area of Forest Park and east to Saint Louis University roughly along Forest Park Avenue…What isn’t standard is that this project is quickly moving forward without any subsidy. There’s no tax abatement, no TIF, no CID, or other money acronym attached…The project is being developed locally by Sangita with backing from Landmark Properties and Harrison Street."
will be glad to see it gone. Corner gas stations suck the urban life out of intersections. A little concerned that his site is outside the CWE form based code. Still, can only improve on a gas station.
NextStL has reported in the past that this station would be leveled for apartments. Same for the now vacant lot across Vandy.
Gas House was being looked at for a $25 million private student-oriented housing development in November 2012.
