In the photo above it appears that Fredbird just had a premonition that he should have accompanied the Cardinals to Pittsburgh Sunday instead of revving up the participants in the 3rd Annual CWE 5k Run. Perhaps his presence in Pittsburgh would have changed the outcome of the Cardinal/Pittsburgh game.
Ninety-nine people ages 7 and up participated in the fundraiser benefitting the Central West End Association. The race was sponsored by a large number of neighborhood businesses (see list at end of the post) such as Sante Health Club whose GM Eric Abts (with microphone) welcomed the crowd and announced the start of the race. Photographer Cheryl Tadin, chairman of the race committee, had many volunteers to assist including Karen Clifford, Eric Abts, Sante trainer Meghann Feeley, and CWEA Board Member Dixie Buford.
The winner of the Sunday's 5k race was Michael Aitken with an incredible time of 15:46.6;
Erika Holroyd was the overall female winner with a great time of 18:51.9. Thanks to the organizers, the participants and the wonderful sponsors, who are listed on the flyer below, for another great race!
I want to give a CWE Shout Out to my great college volunteers from St. Louis University (Maria Schwabe, SLU student organizer) and St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Elizabeth Hedges, STLCOP student organizer)! We had over 60 college students get up on a beautiful Sunday morning and help with monitoring the course and cheering on the runners. These young adults were awesome in giving of their time and brought such an energy to the event! We are most grateful for their help in making the 2013 CWE 5K a success!
